Linkedin Profile Import has changed

Chronus’ Linkedin profile import feature has changed as a result of LinkedIn's new policies around General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). While previously users could import their education, work experience, and publication details from LinkedIn in order to expedite profile completion, they will now be able to import work experience only.

What’s changing? 

If you have the LinkedIn profile import enabled, the link shown in the below screenshot ("Click here to import your experience...") has been updated to refer to work experience only. Old_Linkedin_Import.png

When a user completes the import, only the work experience field will be populated.

More details about this change

  • How does this impact my users? If a user previously imported their education, work experience, or publication details, their answers to these fields will be maintained and they can make future edits to these fields manually. New users will manually enter their education history and will be able to import work experience information from LinkedIn.
  • When did this change? This change is effective May 23. No action is required on your part.
  • Why is the LinkedIn profile import feature being changed? GDPR is significantly shaping approaches to data privacy world-wide, and our ability to access users' LinkedIn data, even with their permission, is subject to LinkedIn's GDPR compliance strategy. In order to comply with GDPR, LinkedIn has tightened restrictions on the API that previously enabled our import feature. 
  • Can I still use LinkedIn SSO? Yes, your users can still sign into your program using their LinkedIn credentials if you have this feature enabled.
